Mi von Ahn’s third full-length album, Delta Veins, will be released on November 6. The record was written and produced together with Martin Hederos, known from The Soundtrack of Our Lives and Tonbruket, and Anton Sundell, who has previously worked with Ane Brun among others. The album marks a new step in von Ahn’s musical expression.

The central image of the album is drawn from Rapaätno, a meandering mountain river in Sarek. When the river divides into new channels, changes direction, and leaves behind islands of sand and silt, it becomes a natural parallel to the album's themes: change, pressure, and the moment when what has been held back begins to find a way forward. Delta Veins portrays change not as an abrupt break, but as a gradual course correction, with a hope that glows beneath the surface.

The image also shapes the soundscape of the album. Von Ahn and her collaborators craft melodic, expansive indie rock with influences from trip-hop and shoegaze. The music is described through contrasts: shimmering surfaces above deeper currents and arrangements that cling to their form before almost imperceptibly giving way. The result suggests movement without establishing a single destination, much like a delta where the water can take many paths.

Three Languages, Shifting Perspectives

The lyrics move between English, Swedish, and passages in Sámi. It is the first time von Ahn writes in multiple languages, a choice that feels natural on an album that resists a single fixed direction. Each language becomes a different way to approach feelings and experiences that may not easily be expressed with only one voice.

The focus track “Closer” gives the album's themes a more direct framing. Von Ahn describes the essence as the tension in standing close to a crisis – personal or global – yet not acting, despite knowing one should. The song also depicts the pull to remain in an untenable situation: the closeness to the familiar can feel safer than the uncertainty that comes with letting go. The conflict between insight and movement reflects the album’s broader interest in what accumulates before change takes shape.

Von Ahn began her recording career with Signals in 2018. The debut was nominated for the GAFFA Award in the Newcomer of the Year category in 2019. Since then, she has toured as a supporting act for The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Ane Brun, Loney Dear, and Christian Kjellvander. Those connections provide context for the collaborations on Delta Veins, while the album’s shifting arrangements and multilingual songwriting establish a direction of its own.

Among the performances in connection with the release are Stage in Umeå on November 6, the festival Luleå Live on November 7, and Lykke Nytorget in Stockholm on November 13. The album is distributed by Aloaded. Through river motifs, layered production, and movement between languages, Delta Veins depicts change not as a single dramatic turn, but as a current that grows stronger until it can no longer be held back.
