Today marks the release of "Overboda," the latest single from The Tallest Man On Earth – the acclaimed project of singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson. The single kicks off an intense period for Matsson as his new album "Just Beyond Endless Mountain" is set for release on October 9, 2026. Coinciding with these music releases, a comprehensive European tour has been announced, featuring four eagerly anticipated Swedish dates scheduled for early 2027.
For over twenty years, Kristian Matsson has been a central figure in contemporary folk, known for his characteristically raspy voice, creative melodies, and virtuosic guitar playing. His musical journey has evolved from stripped-down home recordings to more arranged and multifaceted soundscapes – yet his energetic live performances have remained consistent, with concerts that swing between understated and emotional to powerful and explosive.
The upcoming album "Just Beyond Endless Mountain" signals a return to his roots, both geographically and musically. After many years abroad, Matsson found inspiration back home in Dalarna. The album is clearly influenced by Swedish folk music – especially polska and regional fiddler traditions that he has previously tried to distance himself from. The album is recorded and produced on old analog equipment and has intentionally embraced the experimental and imperfect, which has allowed Matsson to approach influences he previously avoided. The result is described as his most personal work to date.
Recently, Matsson has also begun starting his concerts with a polska by Pål Olle from Östbjörka, reflecting a deepened connection to the folk music heritage of his childhood. Despite this clear reconnection, the music never feels nostalgic or traditionally revivalist – instead, folk elements are used as a springboard for new ways of writing, playing, and singing, which gives the material a tangible presence and authenticity.
