After a triumphant summer in 2025, where Joel Alme performed his largest concert to date on Way Out West's main stage, the acclaimed singer and songwriter has now chosen a new path. In the spring of 2027, Alme will embark on his first solo tour after more than 250 concerts with his loyal backing band. The tour marks a return to his artistic roots, with a special emphasis on the narrative threads that run through his musical works.
Alme has highlighted that the concerts will present the songs in their most stripped-down form, just as they were originally written. This approach is meant to put the lyrics and stories at the forefront and give the audience an opportunity to immerse themselves in the emotions and life experiences that define his music. "This is how the songs are written, and this is how you will hear them," Alme himself has emphasized.
The tour constitutes an artistic high point in Alme's career and coincides with the release of his latest album, Gullmar gospel (2026). The record is a continuation of the journey that began with the Swedish breakthrough album Flyktligan (2015), where themes such as childhood, class background, and personal history took center stage. Flyktligan opened up new audience segments and was highly praised by critics, paving the way for its successors Bort bort bort (2019) and the Grammis-awarded Sköt er själva så sköter jag inte mitt (2022). His development as an artist has been lauded by reviewers, and Gullmar gospel received a rating of 4 out of 5 from both Jan Gradvall (DI Weekend) and Johan Lindqvist (GP).
Critics have especially noted the vulnerability and warmth that permeate Alme's music. Gradvall has compared the vocal performance on Gullmar gospel to Bob Dylan's transformation on Nashville Skyline, and Lindqvist describes Alme's songs as a comforting closeness for those who have failed in life – a hand on the shoulder conveying stories of adversity and dignity.
Across his four Swedish albums, Alme has depicted not only his own journey but also the people and places close to him. The result is a catalog with cinematic qualities, where each song contributes to a larger narrative. During the solo tour's concerts, these stories will be revealed in an even more bare fashion, and the audience is invited to experience them as cohesive chapters with personal commentary about the music and the stories behind them.
