Håkan Hellström performs the closing song for the screen adaptation of Andrev Walden’s novel Jävla karlar, scheduled to open in cinemas on 6 November. “Bakom oss bara dimma” is out now as a single with two recordings: the standard version on the A-side and a separate interpretation for the film on the B-side, subtitled “Filmversion från Jävla karlar”.
For the singer, the commission gave a familiar writing process a specific destination. “I actually write songs for films all the time. Inner films and scenes,” he said. “But it was fun and a true honour to get to do it ‘for real’. And especially for a book and film that I like so much.”
He shares the lyrics and music credit with Björn Olsson. The words look towards roads still to be travelled, urging a companion not to wait and to make things happen. A marriage proposal is tied to the modest condition of being able to afford a suit. Elsewhere, the narrator asks to be removed from lists and registers, while appeals to avoid regret and repeat a declaration of affection give the lyric its insistent character. The title translates approximately as “Behind Us, Only Fog”.
The two recordings have different instrumental line-ups and production teams. On the standard recording, Christopher Cantillo plays drums and Joel Fritzell plays guitar. Torsten Larsson handles bass and keyboards as well as production. The film recording features Billy Cerwin on bass and guitar, Moussa Fadera on drums and Leo Svensson on cello, with Joakim Åhlund responsible for both production and arrangement. Simon Nordberg mixed both versions; mastering credits go to Claes Persson for the A-side and Henrik Jonsson for the B-side. Olle Kirchmeier is credited for the single-cover image.
The book is its author’s debut novel and an August Prize winner. It has sold more than 350,000 copies in Sweden and been published in more than 30 countries.
Jens Sjögren directed the adaptation, with Fredrik Heinig of B-Reel Films producing. The pair previously worked together on the film Jag är Zlatan and the television series The Pirate Bay. In October 2026, their latest production received the jury’s Special Mention in the main competition at the Warsaw International Film Festival. It was also one of three finalists in the selection of Sweden’s 2026 Oscar submission.
Aliette Opheim plays Mona, the mother. The cast also includes Filip Berg, Viktor Norén, Joel Spira, David Book and Jakob Öhrman. The role of Andrev is divided among three actors portraying him at different ages: Vilgot Avenäs Thorslund, Felix Östergren and Ludvig Eriksson.
