Nisse Hasselgren will release “Helgen” on 8/10, offering another preview of his forthcoming debut album. The singer describes the track as “a really cool harmonica tune”.
The track is described as catchy folk-pop.
Björn Olsson handles production. His previous collaborators include Håkan Hellström, Mando Diao and The Soundtrack of Our Lives.
The young performer first attracted wider attention through a viral clip of him singing “Nordhemsgatan leder rakt in i himlen”. Its original artist subsequently invited him to perform the song together at Ullevi, when he was 13. His own recording of the same composition was also issued as a single.
A cover can make a new voice accessible through music listeners already recognise. It also gives that voice a point of comparison, because the composition has an identity before the new performer takes it on. An invitation from the original singer adds a different kind of visibility: direct participation in a performance, beyond the circulation of a clip. Neither circumstance needs to be treated as a prediction of a lasting career to explain its significance in an artist’s early public history.
“Passa bollen” preceded the latest release and coincided with an appearance at Göteborgskalaset. It was the first preview of the planned album.
BlackValley Records is issuing the new track. The label also has links to Valter Nilsson, Jacob Öhrvall and Sunhill.
