Finnish-Mexican melodic death metal band Ulthima will release their second full-length album, Midnight’s Call, on 27 November 2026. Its title track is now available as the final single ahead of the record, accompanied by a music video. The release puts a song about ambition, sacrifice and the erosion of personal principles at the front of the band’s next album campaign.
Guitarist and composer Ricardo Escobar, known as Ric, co-directed the video with Héctor Estrada. He says the track was the last composition written for the album, but the band immediately recognised it as their lead single once it was finished.
The arrangement combines a heavy, melodic introduction, punchy verses and catchy choruses. Ric sees the balance between weight and melody as central to the group’s sound.
The lyrics use the pursuit of success, power and fame as a metaphor for the sacrifices people make to reach their goals, including abandoning principles and potentially morality.
The song also examines losing oneself in that pursuit, asking whether reaching a goal justifies damage to one’s sense of identity.
The band’s history began in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2010. Activity subsequently paused before resuming in Helsinki, Finland, in 2018. The line-up stabilised during that renewed phase, and the group completed its first full-length release, Symphony of the Night. Recording for the follow-up began in mid-2024, placing the new release after an extended period of work on the material.
The six-member line-up also includes guitarist Luca Guagneli, bassist Antonio Valdés, keyboardist Niko Sutinen, drummer Ville Nummisalo and vocalist Tuomas Antila.
Listeners can watch the accompanying video on YouTube or access the single through the streaming-service link, which provides routes to platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal and Amazon Music.
