Few songs can be said to form the foundation of one of pop history’s most enduring legacies, but Roxette’s “Neverending Love” is without a doubt such an exception. The song was first released on July 8, 1986, and marked the beginning of the musical partnership between Per Gessle and the late Marie Fredriksson – a duo whose influence has shaped the global pop scene for decades. With over 80 million albums sold and four number one hits on the US Billboard chart, Roxette has established itself in the international pop elite.

Anniversary Edition: Back to the Roots

In 2026 Roxette celebrates the fortieth anniversary of their iconic debut by reconnecting with their roots. Today, July 3, “Neverending Love (40th Anniversary Edition)” is released as a 12-inch vinyl maxi-single and digitally via Parlophone Music Sweden, a part of Warner Music Sweden. The edition collects hard-to-find and previously unreleased versions of the original track, providing fans a unique insight into the band’s early phase. The original music video has also been remastered and digitally restored, breathing new life into Roxette’s musical starting point.

Behind “Neverending Love” is a story as remarkable as its success. Originally, Per Gessle wrote the song as “Svarta glas” in Swedish, intended for Pernilla Wahlgren to record. But after reworking it, it became Roxette’s debut single instead – the beginning of an international career and the band’s timeless pop sound.

Per Gessle recalls today how the release quickly became a hit on the Swedish charts and paved the way for the adventures that followed. The fortieth anniversary is a tribute to the journey and all the loyal listeners, while also providing an entry point for new generations to discover Roxette’s distinctive pop phenomenon.

However, the anniversary year means more than just a reissue. After completing a successful tour leg in South America during the spring of 2026, Roxette is now heading out on a world tour with stops in Europe and North America. For Swedish fans, there will be a single exclusive concert at Slottsskogsvallen in Gothenburg on July 9, underscoring the significance of the band’s return to their home country.

The summer and early autumn are filled with concerts across Europe and an extensive North American leg later in the year – clear proof of Roxette’s continued global appeal. Here are some confirmed dates for the major 2026 tour:
