Just days before the eagerly awaited start, Nynäskalaset 2026 has been officially cancelled. The festival, which was to have transformed Svandammsparken in Nynäshamn into a vibrant music venue on August 7–8, 2026, will not take place after the newly established organizing company Haj-Faj AB cited unsustainable financial conditions and announced an impending bankruptcy filing.
Rockparty and Summerfest Cancelled in August
This year's edition of Nynäskalaset had been marketed as a double event over the same weekend: Rockparty on Friday and Summerfest on Saturday. The organizers had gathered a wide selection of artists to attract audiences from the entire region. Rockparty Friday was to feature acts such as The Hellacopters, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Smash Into Pieces, Dynazty, and Self Deception. Saturday's Summerfest had bookings including Molly Sandén, Orup, Petra Marklund, E-Type, Medina, Hoffmaestro, Panetoz, and a joint performance with BWO vs Alcazar.
On Tuesday, the Haj-Faj AB board issued a formal announcement that the festival could not be carried out. The decision was based on a thorough review of the finances and discussions with legal advisers. Despite efforts to cut costs, negotiate with suppliers, and find new financing options, the gap in the company's finances could not be resolved. Weak ticket sales and poor financial conditions made it impossible to proceed.
The festival area had already begun to be constructed, but following the announcement, preparations were halted and existing structures taken down. The ticketing platform Nortic quickly marked all tickets and events linked to the festival as cancelled, further confirming the decision.
There are currently no detailed statements on how refunds for already purchased tickets will be handled. Haj-Faj AB’s initial public statement has not clarified whether ticket buyers should contact Nortic or wait for further information in the upcoming bankruptcy process.
The rapid halt of the festival is notable both in terms of timing and from a historical perspective. Nynäskalaset has previously experienced financial difficulties — in 2017, the former organizing company Kalasproduktion fell into deep debt and was planned to be put into bankruptcy. This time, however, the situation concerns Haj-Faj AB, a company registered in 2025 specifically to manage festival arrangements.
The cancellation of Nynäskalaset 2026 highlights the challenges facing the live events industry, especially for independent festivals trying to recover after years of market uncertainty. Both artists and audiences are left disappointed as Nynäshamn's planned summer party gives way to difficult economic realities.
