Norwegian indie-pop artist girl in red released her new single “blue” on October 9. The song focuses on change, uncertainty and the difficulty of finding a way forward when life takes a new direction.
Behind the artist name is Marie Ulven, known for candid, personal songwriting. Here, she addresses the strong emotions that accompany those shifts, while the accompanying music video brings her own romantic life into view.
Filmed in Oslo, the video traces the development of her relationship over the years. Personal moments and memories provide the basis for an intimate account of love and vulnerability. It was written and directed by Isak Jenssen, an established close creative collaborator.
Two changes to the artist’s online presence signalled the release in advance. The red sweater on the cover of “we fell in love in october” turned blue, and her Instagram account changed its handle from @girlinred to @girlinblue.
The single follows “Hemingway”, released the previous year, and opens a new musical chapter for the artist. Her record label says more new music is on the way.
