Egokills, the acclaimed rock band from Tampere, marks a significant anniversary year in 2026 by releasing their fourth studio album, Brainbanger. The record coincides with the band’s 15th anniversary and means a return to the classic four-member lineup, which both revives the band’s dynamic and the explosive feeling on stage.

With Brainbanger, Egokills opens a new chapter with a sound that is rawer and more unrefined than before. It is their most metallic and unpolished album yet – an approach that prioritizes emotion, sharpness, and authenticity over flawless production. The album breathes genuineness and sweat, something only a tight-knit band can achieve in the studio, and is particularly aimed at those seeking more than just perfection in new music.

New creative direction and stronger interplay

Behind this renewal lies, among other things, the band’s decision to return to four members. At the beginning of 2024, founder Janne Selo, who previously only sang, picked up the guitar again – something that quickly spread new energy and creative joy within the group. Together with guitarist Niko Viita-aho, bassist Mika Pusa, and drummer Vilho Rajala, Egokills has found a powerful community that shines through in the music. This is especially evident in the title track "Brainbanger", which mixes classic metal energy with sharp riffs, striking melodies, and intricate guitar harmonies.

Brainbanger is produced by Juha Nevala, known for collaborations with, among others, Huora and Somehow Jo. Most of the album was recorded at Lammaskallion Audio studio in the Finnish countryside of Tuusula – an environment that fostered focus and gave the music its focused, powerful sound. Guitarist Niko Viita-aho emphasizes that the rural setting was essential for the easy-going interplay and the uncompromisingly direct feeling of the album.

The record opens with "Light So Pale", setting the tone for the rest of the album: heavier guitars, more details, and a newly awakened determination. When Selo returned to the guitar, new songs began to emerge quickly during 2024, which meant a creative fresh start after tough years of setbacks and personal loss. By getting through this together as a group, Egokills now stands stronger than ever with their latest work.

Current lineup in Egokills:

  • Janne Selo – vocals, guitar
  • Niko Viita-aho – guitar
  • Mika Pusa – bass
  • Vilho Rajala – drums

The release of Brainbanger is celebrated with a special show at Bar Kotelo in Tampere on October 9, 2026. On stage the same evening is also the local grunge and alternative metal group We Are Still. The concert evening promises a mix of the band’s older and new material and reinforces Egokills’ position in Finland’s rock and metal scene.
