The Swedish metal band WORMWOOD continues to challenge itself with its new concept EP 'Å'. This concise yet dynamic release features two lengthy compositions: 'YRA' and 'EXTAS PURPOSELESS GEOMETRY'. Both tracks bear clear marks of the classic WORMWOOD style, while the band also takes further steps forward through new musical elements and a developed soundscape.
'Å' marks a special place in WORMWOOD's catalog. Unlike the band's previous and upcoming full-length albums, this EP is built on a concept that has evolved over a longer period but has only now found the right framework and context. The result is a cohesive and focused endeavor rather than an interlude while awaiting larger works.
A Raw Contemporary Portrayal from the Outskirts of the City
Thematically, 'Å' presents a portrait of contemporary times, drawing inspiration from Stockholm's most vulnerable environments. The EP tells two interconnected stories inspired by marginalized groups in the capital, transforming their experiences into uncompromising and authentic music. The band strives for a depiction of reality that is both raw and opaque, without embellishment.
This also means a further development of WORMWOOD's expression. Previously, the band has been known for its narrative and dark themes, but with 'Å' this focus is deepened as the material takes root in the everyday life of those often on the periphery of society. The strong presence and rawness lend the music added emotional charge and directness.
The soundscape is characterized by the atmospheric melodicism and powerful rhythms that define WORMWOOD, but also incorporates new elements and structures. With this EP, the band marks a continued evolution while hinting at possible future directions, without losing its artistic core.
The artistic expression is also visually realized through a video project created in collaboration with Svartna Film. The collaboration enhances the holistic experience found in both the music and the stories portrayed by the EP.
'Å' is released by Black Lodge Records and distributed by Sound Pollution Distribution, ensuring accessibility for both devoted fans and new listeners eager to discover WORMWOOD's innovative blend of storytelling and sound experimentation.
For those seeking music at the intersection of raw reality and artistic interpretation, 'Å' offers a fascinating entry point into WORMWOOD's ever-expanding world.
