Sanna Jäänvirta has released her debut single, Joka Sunnuntai, accompanied by an atmospheric music video. The song is based on a true story and depicts loneliness and social exclusion through the dark, fragile pop that characterizes her solo music.
The debut album Lumiaavikko became available in a physical edition at the same time as the single's release, ahead of the planned launch on streaming services next spring. The record is sold in her own online shop and at performances.
The album contains folk-inspired elements including kantele, melodica, and choral singing. Johnny Lee Michaels, who has previously worked with The 69 Eyes and PK Keränen, is responsible for production and mixing.
The starting point for the single was a walk and the sight of trees left bare by autumn weather. “I was walking outdoors and thought that every autumn there comes a day when the wind and the rain suddenly take the leaves from the trees, and the next day nature is bare,” says the songwriter. She describes the album's stories as depictions of real life, drawn from what she sees and experiences around her.
She also emphasizes that loneliness can be invisible to those around, and that people can notice others in everyday life. “Small everyday things are ultimately what keep the sense of meaning in life alive,” she says.
She has sung and played bass in Angel Blue Band together with Ari Koivunen and Petteri Hirvanen, with blues, soul, and rock on the repertoire. She has also sung at tribute nights to Deep Purple and performed solo and in duo. In total, her schedule includes nearly 100 performances this year.
