Mika Maijala, best known as the prominent guitarist and founder of A. Aallon Rytmiorkesteri, is now taking a bold new step in his musical career. On his 60th birthday, November 20, 2026, Maijala will release his deeply personal debut album “Missä mahdat olla nyt”. The release is both a tribute and a reflection, with the album’s songs mirroring the emotional journey through significant personal losses and creative self-examination.

The songs for Missä mahdat olla nyt emerged as Maijala processed the grief following two major losses in his life. Through music, he channeled his feelings and created songs that felt so personal he wanted to be responsible for both their lyrics and interpretation. This powerful need for expression finally made the dream of a solo album a reality. For Maijala, songwriting has been a way to understand and handle life's complexity. Every song on the album is based either on his own experiences or on stories inspired by imagination—a balance between the autobiographical and the fictional.

Stylistically, the album is influenced by iconic Finnish artists such as Juice Leskinen, Kaseva, and J. Karjalainen, featuring a distinct Manserock feel. The arrangements balance thoughtful lyrics with melodic guitar, which is continually at the center—just as in Maijala’s long career as a musician. Listeners will recognize traces of his idols’ expression interwoven into the album’s sound—a natural result of Maijala’s earliest guitar practice to their music.

The recording features several renowned musicians, underscoring the significance of the project. In addition to Maijala himself on guitar and vocals, the ensemble includes drummer Anssi Nykänen, bassist Harri Rantanen, keyboardist Tuomas Kesälä, and Maijala’s own son, Mi Maijala, on guitar. Together, they provide the album with even greater musical breadth and depth, with guitar playing and group dynamics at the center stage. The album consists almost exclusively of original songs—the exception being a yet-to-be-named cover, which serves as a respectful nod to tradition.

Missä mahdat olla nyt will be released both digitally and on vinyl and CD, thus appealing to both modern listeners and dedicated collectors. The project’s first single, sharing the album’s title, insightfully introduces Maijala’s new role as singer and songwriter. The single is now available and demonstrates the album’s emotional range and personal signature.

The album will be celebrated with a release concert at the renowned G Livelab in Tampere on November 21, 2026. On this special evening, Maijala, together with the album’s musicians, will perform the new material live for the first time. During the concert, audience favorites from A. Aallon Rytmiorkesteri’s acclaimed repertoire will also play a central role, showcasing Maijala’s bridge between the established group and his new solo expression.

It is important to note that Maijala’s solo career will run in parallel with his work in A. Aallon Rytmiorkesteri. The esteemed ensemble will continue as before, and Maijala emphasizes that his solo venture will not affect the band’s work or performances. Instead, this new chapter is proof of his broad creativity and ongoing importance to the Finnish music scene.
