During a vibrant week in July 2026, Kuopio was transformed as the storied Kuopiorock festival once again took over Väinölänniemi. As the largest rock event in Savolax, the festival attracted an impressive 30,000 visitors, with Saturday completely sold out – a testament to the festival’s strong appeal and diverse lineup, which brought together different genres and generations.
Unforgettable Performances and Emotional Farewells
Over 40 artists and bands filled four different stages with both contemporary and classic rock sounds. Among the most popular Finnish acts were Käärijä, pop star Ellinoora, and metal pioneers Amorphis. International contributions came from Swedish hard rockers H.E.A.T and Canadian Danko Jones, while veterans such as Turmion Kätilöt (who have performed at every Kuopiorock) and goth rock icons The 69 Eyes delivered energetic sets. Add to that popular names like Jonna Tervomaa, Maija Vilkkumaa, Lordi, as well as punk bands Aino & Hajonneet, Klamydia, and Nyrkkitappelu – the audience experienced a colorful musical smorgasbord throughout the weekend.
Two moments stood out as particularly memorable. On Friday night, the recently reunited Nylon Beat delivered an engaging headline show, surprising the audience with a cover of W.A.S.P.’s “I Wanna Be Somebody.” The entire area joined in singalong and the excitement heightened further when Marko Hietala, known from Tarot, joined Nylon Beat on stage for an emotional rendition of “Syytön.” These moments highlighted the festival's ability to create both grand and intimate musical experiences.
Saturday became historic when Eppu Normaali, one of Finland’s most legendary rock groups, performed their final festival show ever as the evening’s main act. For fans, this was an emotional farewell and a fitting end to an era, as the band’s iconic rock songs marked the conclusion before a moved festival crowd. The significance of this farewell will remain both in the memory of Kuopiorock and Finnish rock history.
Demand for Kuopiorock continues to be strong. All three-day Cittari VIP passes and Saturday VIP tickets sold out in advance, reflecting the festival’s allure – especially for those wishing to enhance their experience with extra benefits. The festival is open to all ages, but VIP areas are reserved for people over 18, which contributes to an inclusive yet balanced atmosphere for both young and older festival guests.
Expectations for Kuopiorock 2027 are already high. On July 28, 2026, at 09:00, ticket sales will begin via Tiketti and Lippu.fi, where a special first batch of "Pimmee Kukko" tickets will be offered. Simultaneously, sales for Cittari VIP tickets for companies and groups start on Real Albert Promotions’ official channels. Although next year’s lineup has yet to be announced, the festival’s reputation and previous star performances suggest that interest will be significant.
Kuopiorock thus continues to set the tone for the Finnish and Nordic festival summer. The 2026 edition will be remembered for its scale, atmosphere, and the strong memories created on the festival's many stages. With record attendance, historic farewells, and a setting where established stars meet new talents, Kuopiorock remains a clear highlight of the festival year.
