Zhala has released “Twin Clouds”, her first new music in six years and the opening single from her forthcoming second album. The record will be released through Robyn’s Konichiwa Records.

The song was co-written with Sarah Assbring, also known as El Perro del Mar, and Jacob Haage. Carli Löf, whose credits include work with Swedish House Mafia, is a co-producer.

The singer describes it as a happy queer/lesbian love song, with a happy ending. Its subject is a love that carries her somewhere futuristic while feeling ancient and eternal: something she had always known existed, without knowing it could feel so good. “I allowed myself to write such a direct love song,” she says.

Her label founder calls it “a perfect pop song” and adds: “I’m floored by her songwriting and her ability to show us a whole new universe and make us feel so welcome there.”

The release comes ahead of a support appearance tomorrow at 3Arena in Stockholm. During the summer’s The Sexistential Tour, the new track was a regular part of the opening sets; at the Los Angeles concert on September 24, the two singers performed it as a duet.

The self-titled debut album arrived in 2015 and included the singles “Slippin’ Around”, “Prophet” and “Holy Bubbles”. The standalone release “Holes” followed in 2020.

The single’s cover is credited to Ebba Lindqvist.
