Viivi Rättyä Releases Moving New Single "Lentokisat taivaaseen" Ahead of Debut Album
With today's release of the new single "Lentokisat taivaaseen," Viivi Rättyä invites the listener on an emotional journey through memories, loss, and the hope of reunion with departed loved ones. The song represents an important milestone in the Finnish artist's career and is the second taste of her upcoming debut album, which will be released on September 11, 2026.
"Lentokisat taivaaseen" is a deeply personal work, originally written ten years ago in the shadow of Rättyä's own grief after losing her father at the age of twelve. The song, inspired by a dream, captures the longing to see someone dear again, even if only for a moment. "Grief has always been a strong driving force in my life and my music. Many can relate to longing to meet a loved one again, whether it is possible or not," Rättyä has shared. Through her expressive songwriting, the single invites listeners to find comfort and connection in shared longing and memories.
The upcoming debut album, produced by the renowned Rauli Eskolin, showcases Rättyä's sense for melody and lyrics. The album consists of eleven songs, all personally composed and written by Rättyä, and will be released as double vinyl, CD, and digital format. Before "Lentokisat taivaaseen," the first single "Aistit" was already released, laying the foundation for an introspective and emotional whole.
Rättyä's music is described as gripping, atmospheric, and emotional, where beautiful melodies meet honest lyrics. She has her roots in Nurmijärvi and began taking singing lessons already at four years old, as well as receiving instruction in accordion, piano, and guitar. She is a trained singer from Pop & Jazz Conservatory and started her solo career in 2022, first as a duo and later with a full band.
The album release will be celebrated with a concert at Semifinaali in Helsinki on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The audience can look forward to the full band—Aapo Kokko (guitar), Johannes Suominen (bass), Leevi Heikkilä (drums), and Peik Hietala (keyboards, guitar, flute, lap steel)—as well as a guest appearance by Aapo Räsänen on wind instruments. Doors open at 19:00 and the concert begins around 20:00. Tickets cost 10 euros and are sold via Ticketmaster.
Rättyä's musical journey has attracted attention within the Finnish music scene, paving the way for collaboration with producer Gabi Hakanen and the team at Vallila Music House. These collaborations have broadened her expression and made it possible for more people to experience her unique combination of vulnerability and hope.
With "Lentokisat taivaaseen" and the anticipated debut album, Viivi Rättyä not only offers her own story of love and sorrow but also a universal reflection on loss, strength, and the healing power of music. Her journey is set to leave a lasting mark on the Finnish music scene—and beyond.
