The Rolling Stones to Release "Foreign Tongues" – A Bold New Chapter in 2026
July 10, 2026 marks another major milestone in rock history, as The Rolling Stones release the highly anticipated studio album Foreign Tongues via Polydor/Universal Music. Several decades into their career, the band proves not only their unmatched energy but also a creative adventurousness, with a 14-track album that further secures their role as icons on the contemporary music scene.
A mix of roots and innovation
Foreign Tongues arrives less than three years after the critically acclaimed and Grammy-winning Hackney Diamonds. On the new album, The Rolling Stones honor their classic roots while also exploring new soundscapes and themes. The album consists of twelve entirely new songs, an emotional rendition of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good" and concludes with "Beautiful Delilah" – a tribute to Chuck Berry, one of the band's greatest sources of inspiration.
The record opens with the raw, blues-tinged track "Rough and Twisted", which was first released in a limited white label vinyl under the name The Cockroaches and quickly became a collector's item. Other highlights include the new single "Jealous Lover" as well as the infectious "In The Stars", both of which showcase the album's confident balance between nostalgia and renewal.
On Foreign Tongues, a thread of creative energy and curiosity runs through every song – qualities that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood display at the height of their abilities, supported by recurring fellow musicians such as bassist Darryl Jones, keyboardist Matt Clifford, and drummer Steve Jordan.
Drawing particular focus is "Hit Me In The Head", where the late Charlie Watts is heard posthumously in one of his last studio sessions before his death in 2021. The contribution serves as a touching reminder of Watts' invaluable importance to the band's groove and spirit.
The recordings were made during an intense, focused session at Metropolis Studios in London and were completed in less than a month with Andrew Watt at the helm – the same producer behind Hackney Diamonds. Jagger has described the process as “intense weeks filled with energy and passion” and believes that Metropolis' more intimate setting gave the album its immediacy. Richards highlights the joy and privilege of still being able to make music with the band at this level, while Wood talks about the spontaneity that permeated the sessions where many songs were captured on the first take.
Guest contributions add further luster to the album. Among those featured are Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith (The Cure), and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), which reinforces the album's experimental character and emphasizes the Stones' continued relevance for new generations of musicians.
The album’s visual expression is defined by its cover art, signed by acclaimed American artist Nathaniel Mary Quinn. Quinn himself has described the opportunity to design the album cover as “an artistic honor and a dialogue with one of music history's most enduring forces.”
