The Swedish vintage rock trio Marylane is celebrating a significant breakthrough with the release of their debut album Seventh Sense. The band is known for merging mystical soundscapes with visual elements reminiscent of the circus world, and they continue to push the boundaries of their artistic expression. The long-awaited record explores themes such as ajattomuus, resilience, and the contrast between darkness and light, conveyed through both music and aesthetics.

A distinct sound and visual identity

Marylane has created a clear and unique position within the rock genre, building on the foundation from their debut EP Winners Write History (2024). The trio's spontaneous and unexpected combinations of song structures and stylistic elements give the music a strong character. Frontperson Mary Marylane explains that a recurring theme is blurring the lines between the rational and the irrational, which charges the music with palpable tension. On Seventh Sense, the songs emerge darker and heavier than previous material, while Marylane’s signature unpredictably atmospheric feel remains.

The album was final-produced by the renowned musician and producer Andy La Rocque, known among other things for his work with King Diamond. La Rocque's contribution deepens the album’s soundscape and adds further layers to Marylane's already atmospheric music. Listeners are offered a journey between cinematic imagery and raw human emotion.

The visual narrative is just as central to Marylane's artistic vision. The trio combines mystique and circus-inspired aesthetics in their music videos and stage performances, enhancing the immersive impression. Mary mentions that the theme of ajattomuus runs throughout the album, and attentive listeners can find hidden surprises and references to the past, most evident in the visual expressions.

Simultaneously with the album release, Marylane also presents the new single Seven and a music video directed by Patric Ullaeus. Ullaeus is an experienced creator within the Scandinavian rock and metal scene, known for collaborations with, among others, Arch Enemy, Apocalyptica, and Dimmu Borgir. He was also behind Marylane’s previous video Doreen from the spring, and now returns to bring their latest vision to life.

The song "Seven" holds special significance for the band as it came together quickly after their debut and set the tone for the album’s direction. The track developed spontaneously and energetically, thus reflecting Marylane's direct and instinctive approach. The band considers "Seven" one of the strongest examples of their current development and wanted to give more space to the band members in the new video – a contrast to previous, more story-driven productions.

Mary consistently emphasizes the importance of authenticity and evolution in the band's new material. Instead of conforming to clear frameworks, Marylane prefers to push boundaries and value the joy of creation over the predictable. The group feels they are on the right path both visually and artistically and look forward with anticipation to the new ideas and surprises the future will bring.
