Fanny Avonne is embarking on a five-date headlining tour this spring with her debut album Vad gör jag nu? backing her. The tour begins in Lund on February 12 and continues via Gothenburg, Uppsala, and Stockholm before concluding in Oslo on March 6.
The tour follows an album shaped by Avonne’s close involvement in its creation. She has written and co-produced the record and played a large portion of the instruments. Across the twelve songs, jazz, bossa nova, Swedish singer-songwriter tradition, soul, and pop are interwoven, with melodies and lyrics rooted in everyday experiences as a common foundation. The result reflects an artist who moves between styles without treating any genre as a strict template.
After a tumultuous new start, she created on her own terms
The road to the album began with an early departure from the familiar. At 17, the Stockholm artist left school, signed a record deal, and moved to Los Angeles. The experience didn’t live up to the promises of her dreams: after three years, she returned to Sweden with her self-confidence significantly shaken and began anew.
That background gives her role in the album’s creation particular weight. After experiencing what it was like to lose creative control, Avonne took responsibility for writing, co-producing, and performing much of the music herself. Her work with Vad gör jag nu? is not just about performance; her decisions are central to the album’s sound and arrangements.
The title poses the question of what happens when a difficult period is over. The album’s twelve songs address the strange stillness that can follow chaos, especially when the turbulence has become intertwined with one’s self-image. Instead of depicting recovery as a simple solution, the album explores the restless space that remains once the crisis has passed. The intimate lyrics and varied musical palette give the subject room to shift in tone and expression.
Family also finds a place in the album’s emotional world. Avonne’s older sister Felicia appears in the narrative as a source of frank, uncompromising advice—a kind of compass. Avonne has said she hopes to offer listeners something similar: the steadfastness of an older sister who tells it like it is. That ambition fits well with the album’s everyday and conversational language.
A growing audience and the first album tour
Many listeners discovered Avonne through “Tusen spänn”, her feature on the Tjuvjakt track. Her distinctive chorus became the emotional centerpiece of the song and introduced her voice to a wider audience. After that, she released the EP Växtvärk and was awarded a Grammis as Newcomer of the Year. Vad gör jag nu? marks the next step: a full-length album where her songwriting and musical breadth come together.
The album has received positive reviews for its personal songwriting, arrangements, and movement between different genres. P3’s Tina Mehrafzoon described it as a soulful debut, while Aftonbladet’s Per Magnusson highlighted Avonne’s ability to shine through tasteful musical choices.
