NYHET Metal #Amon Amarth

The Swedish death metal giants Amon Amarth are back with “Eight Legs of Thunder” – a powerful new single where the band continues the tradition of blending mythical themes with their characteristically massive sound. The song draws inspiration from Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged horse from Norse mythology, and is driven by a galloping main riff along with a chorus tailored for sing-alongs at upcoming concerts.

The music video for the song offers an unexpected contrast to the Norse tones, placing the story in a modern American western setting, complete with cowboys, pickup trucks, and sprawling roads. Sleipnir itself appears in a dreamlike sequence that blends the reverence of myth with the iconography of the American wilderness. Director Dariusz Szermanowicz describes the concept as “a high-octane cinematic journey full of cowboy action, intensity, and a dash of black humor,” reflecting the band’s desire to push aesthetic boundaries.

“Eight Legs of Thunder” is the last single before Amon Amarth releases their upcoming album The Allfather Awakens on October 2, 2026 via Metal Blade Records with exclusive distribution through Sound Pollution. The record contains ten tracks and is described as the start of a new era for the band. Odin, the mythical Allfather and god of war, wisdom, and death, continues to be central in the band’s lyrics and visual storytelling. This time, it is not a traditional concept album, but rather a collection of epic stories drawn from historical themes – with a focus on conflict, sacrifice, and the search for higher ideals.

On The Allfather Awakens, Amon Amarth cements their position with memorable riffs and relentless melodic intensity. The album promises the type of precision and power that over the years has come to define the band’s sound. By interweaving recurring motifs from myth and history, Amon Amarth creates vibrant narratives where Odin’s presence permeates every song.

“Eight Legs of Thunder” is now available on all major digital platforms and provides a clear taste of what is to come from the album later this year. With their current material, Amon Amarth pay tribute to both the roots of mythology and explore bold visual as well as musical directions. Both fans and new listeners have much to look forward to as one of Sweden’s most influential metal bands begins a new chapter in its ongoing saga.
