The Malmö band Koala Bar is releasing its fourth album, Too Many Lemons, on Lilystars Records. The album is intended as the group’s largest cohesive project to date, exploring in three chapters the difficulty of making the world appear comprehensible. The format ties a changing perspective to a gradual shift away from the band’s established sound.

The release begins with Too on October 14, 2026, followed by Many on November 4. Lemons arrives on February 12, 2027, and the full album is released on February 26, 2027.

The first chapter contains nine of the project’s 20 tracks. The theme is clarity: an awakening where familiar explanations no longer provide comfort. Contradictions, crises, and the challenge of living in a reality that doesn’t always seem coherent give this section a confrontational character.

Musically, this opening is closest to the group’s existing expression with guitars, melodies, and electronics. The darker atmosphere remains, but the material is intended to be more restless than before. Kool-Aid gives this a direct melodic outlet. The song addresses resistance to everyday norms, rules, and routines, including the pressure to keep following them without questioning their demands.

The second chapter turns toward possibilities: when an accepted image of reality changes, another way of living becomes conceivable. Recognizable features from the band’s music remain, but the arrangements become freer and more exploratory.

Absurdity rules the final chapter, where imagination and humor offer ways to relate to the world without making everything fit into a logical explanation. The music shifts toward jazzier drumming, passages reminiscent of Jacques Brel, hip hop, and ideas the musicians have not previously explored as thoroughly.

The songwriting draws material from everyday life in the city where the group lives and works, but the city is not the subject. Personal questions and societal conditions meet on an album about resistance to numbing.

Since 2015, the musicians have developed an expression with distorted guitars, analog synths, drum machines, samples, and several vocalists. Dynamics, atmosphere, and the placement of tracks in a larger context are key aspects of their working method. Their discography already includes three albums and several EPs.

Live, visual elements and samples are combined in a consciously structured format. The group has played venues and festivals in Sweden and internationally, was nominated early in their career for GAFFA’s Newcomer of the Year, and in 2026 completed a tour with eight shows in the UK.
