This year’s Hellsinki Metal Festival attracted 16,000 metal enthusiasts over two intense days at the classic Helsinki Ice Hall (Nordis), cementing its position as one of the Nordic region’s leading events for heavy music. Despite the festival’s relatively short history, it has quickly gained a reputation for professionalism and an inclusive spirit. According to organizer Toni Törrönen, the 2026 edition was characterized by a distinctly strong sense of togetherness and well-coordinated execution, both among participants and the audience.

The 2026 lineup offered a broad palette of heavy music, with highlights such as Black Label Society, Opeth, Accept, Carpenter Brut, Carcass, Unleashed, Paradise Lost, Eluveitie, IOTUNN, Triptykon, Kalmah, Omnium Gatherum, and Ikinä. One of the festival’s strongest moments was Ikinä’s special performance, where a minute’s silence was held in memory of women who have fallen victim to violence. On stage, 15 female metal vocalists paid a unique tribute and delivered an important social message.

The festival also showed its commitment to culture and community beyond the music stages. Visitors could enjoy the visually striking Dark Art Gallery, the popular Inkferno tattoo area, professional wrestling matches, a RIP-zone bouncy castle area, and booths where companies and organizations with ties to metal presented their activities. Charity was also in focus, with collections benefiting Mieli Ry (support for mental health) and Naisten Linja (aid for women subjected to violence).

Looking Out to the Baltic Sea: Hellsinki Metal Cruise 2026

This autumn, Hellsinki Metal Festival takes to the seas when Hellsinki Metal Cruise departs from Helsinki to Stockholm and back November 6–8, 2026. The cruise’s artist lineup is equally strong, with acts such as Samael, Rotting Christ, Groza, Aborym, Deathchain, Moonlight Sorcery, Chamber of Unlight, and a special anniversary performance by Waltari, celebrating 40 years. Additional confirmed names include Cumbeast, Khroma, Baphy, Night Crowned, Rabbit Cult, Totalselfhatred, Paara, and Ashen Tomb.

Tickets for the cruise are now available via Viking Line at vikingline.fi/hmc. The cruise is described as a compact version of the festival – an intense gathering for the metal community out at sea.

There is already visible enthusiasm for coming events. Hellsinki Metal Festival returns to the ice hall area next year, on August 6–7, 2027. A limited number of Patient Zero early bird tickets have already been released. These initiatives highlight the festival’s continuous development – where uncompromising extreme music, belonging, activism, and innovation propel the Finnish festival scene forward.
