Dogge Doggelito Unites Generations with Young Artists Penny Smitt and Emilia Tawan

Swedish hip-hop pioneer Dogge Doggelito meets a new generation as he releases the new single "Dagarna" together with Penny Smitt and Emilia Tawan on July 24. The collaboration, initiated by songwriters Robert Ekroth and Anne Smitt, is more than just a musical union—it is a meeting of two generations within Swedish music, where dialogue and mentorship transcend age boundaries.

"Dagarna" revolves around fleeting time and the importance of appreciating days shared together. The lyrics, co-written in the intention of weaving together experiences from childhood to adulthood, encourage the listener to embrace the present. Dogge Doggelito, a leading figure on the Swedish music scene, here collaborates with Penny Smitt, a 14-year-old songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Södermalm, and 16-year-old Emilia Tawan from Skogås/Nacka, singer and creator.

A collaboration rooted in inspiration and support

The foundation for the collaboration was laid several years ago, when Robert Ekroth realized that a song idea would suit Dogge’s style. After Penny Smitt and Dogge performed at the same event, Ekroth and Anne Smitt approached the rapper and presented their vision—and the connection was immediate. At a release party, the demo was played for Dogge, who immediately said yes. From there, the process moved quickly, and "Dagarna" was recorded, accompanied by cover photos taken by Jytte Lindberg.

For Penny and Emilia, the collaboration has been both developmental and affirming. Penny, who contributes an electric guitar solo at Dogge’s suggestion, describes the process as creatively stimulating. Dogge Doggelito has served as a mentor during the recording and emphasizes the importance of giving young artists space and support. "Penny and Emilia have fantastic energy, and it feels important to pave the way for the next generation of artists," says Dogge.

Both young artists have already built impressive résumés. Penny Smitt has released over 20 songs on Spotify since 2021, both solo and in band formations, and also has experience from film and television with roles in productions such as "Beck: Dödsfällan" and "Gåsmamman: Epilogen" where she often showcases her musical talents. Emilia Tawan is a singer, songwriter, dancer, and choreographer, with inspiration drawn from artists like Christina Aguilera, Sia, Whitney Houston, Duffy, and Sabrina Carpenter. Both have recently completed the music profile at Kulturama and are now seeking upper secondary music education—Penny focusing on songwriting and Emilia on vocals.
