AMOS & RIOT NIGHT Turn Loss Into Hymnal Strength With “Pieces”

AMOS & RIOT NIGHT, produced by the Liverpool-based producer and DJ David McClelland, continues to establish its role as a leading force on the international Trance scene. McClelland’s signature style is characterized by uplifting melodies and energetic rhythms, and his productions have been released on some of the most respected record labels in the electronic music world: Future Sound of Egypt, Vandit, Subculture, Regenerate, Pure Trance, Armada, VII, and High Voltage. As a result, he has received support and recognition from influential names such as Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Aly & Fila, John O’Callaghan, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Sean Tyas, and Tiësto.

The new single “Pieces” is a deeply personal collaboration between McClelland, British producer Grant Trowbridge, and Liverpool-based singer and songwriter Lucy Starr. The track was written during a period of great personal loss for McClelland, following the passing of his grandmother and a breakup from a significant relationship. During the creative process, the lyric “I’m picking up the pieces” emerged as the emotional centerpiece of the song, where both pain and hope weave together the story of loss and reconstruction.

Work on “Pieces” began in Liverpool, where McClelland and Starr developed the core lyrics and melody of the track. Grant Trowbridge later joined in, contributing additional production and a club-feel dimension, which gave the song a stronger club character without compromising its vulnerability. Together they created a production that unites personal vulnerability with the euphoric language that is characteristic of Trance music.

In terms of production, “Pieces” is inspired by Simon Patterson’s early, darkly driven sound. McClelland and Trowbridge combine sharp, energetic basslines with melodies where the sound image of the Roland JP8000 is interpreted via Arturia’s JUP8000-V synth. This allows the track to both hold onto Trance tradition and create a modern, narrative impression where emotional charge meets club power. Lucy Starr’s participation, in ongoing development within Trance after previous success in the indie world, further deepens the song’s emotional weight.

Released through the influential label Future Sound of Egypt, “Pieces” marks Grant Trowbridge’s debut on the label, while McClelland and Starr continue their ongoing collaboration with the imprint. For six years, AMOS & RIOT NIGHT have made Future Sound of Egypt their musical home, delivering recurring singles that have left a lasting mark among the Trance audience.

Grant Trowbridge’s rapid rise in the scene is reflected in releases on labels such as Pure Trance, Borderline, and Black Hole, as well as support from figures like Armin van Buuren, Aly & Fila, Solarstone, and Paul van Dyk. Lucy Starr contributes a distinct authenticity here and has previously reached the top 10 on Beatport’s Trance Main Floor chart with the collaboration “Calling Out For You.”

AMOS & RIOT NIGHT have enjoyed five top 10 placements on Beatport’s Trance charts throughout their career and performed at leading events such as Luminosity Beach Festival, Gatecrasher, Trance Sanctuary, and Shine Ibiza. However, “Pieces” stands out through its personal significance—a hymn born of grief, heartbreak, and, ultimately, renewal. The single carries a redeeming and hopeful feeling and illustrates music’s ability to heal and inspire; it speaks to anyone who has been forced to pick up the pieces after a loss.
